Artist Spirit, the first instalment in a series, points out and critiques what is left untold and in the dark in contemporary art’s finances. It formulates its critique through sarcasm, and it aims to weaponize the humour. The thing this work aims to critique is neither the artist nor the artwork, but rather the manipulative and manipulatable financial and commercial value that is attributed to both. What is focused on in this work’s subtext is the mechanisms of art criticism as an institution itself (everybody in art circles seems to be complaining about these problematic mechanisms). Art circles are devoid of any mechanisms of critique, however, many issues are constantly being criticized and complained about. These types of criticisms and complaints are devoid of any power to create any meaningful change. From the point of view of this video, the structure of the critique is futile.
