This program sets forth from the belief that places, sometimes, have their own memory, attempting to track how effective dramatic and narrative places are in films and videos. Sometimes films and videos search for places as a social, and sometimes psychological, background for their characters. And sometimes, the place becomes the theme of films through human narration.
Haunted Places attempts to pose the following questions, can places have an influence on the narrative? Is the experience that places hold, and not places per se, representable? How historically loaded places take part in events that address that history? And how do they keep the memory alive, and how can we in turn read it?
The program is in the form of a written article with film links, choosing to be a text-based narrative experience that integrates films. The article will be published, and the films will be available for watching throughout the festival.
